Cox Internet Cutting Out with Apple Router (2016)
In February 2016 Cox Communications released a security update for their modems which conflicted with the settings of a number of Apple routers, including the Airport Extreme, Airport Express and Time Capsule. Flint Audio Video has responded to many concerned customers having lost their wireless internet in their homes. For your convenience, we are posting this brief tutorial in order for our customers to get their internet connection back online immediately.
Step 1: Open Airport Utility
If you have a Mac computer, Airport Utility can be found in Applications > Utilities > Airport Utility or by simply searching “Airport Utility” in the magnifying glass on the top-right of the screen.
If you are using a PC running Windows, you must download Airport Utility here.
You can also access Airport Utility from an iPad or iPhone. You’ll first need to download it from the App Store (it’s free).
Step 2: Open Settings for your Router
Select your router and click the Edit button on the bottom. If you have multiple routers you will have the repeat the following steps for each one.

Step 3: Open Internet Options
If you’re on a Mac: Select the tab labelled “Internet” on the top of the new window. At the bottom of that tab there is a button called “Internet Options”, click that.
If you’re using Windows, Internet Options is under the “Advanced Settings” tab.

Step 4: Configure IPv6 Settings
The first option on the new window should read “Configure IPv6”. From the adjacent drop-down menu, select Link-local only. After you select this option click Save. Remember, if you have multiple routers you will need to repeat steps 2-4 for each one.

Still Having Issues?
If this solution doesn’t work for you, the router may need to be reset in order for the changes to take affect. To do this, follow these simple steps:
- Unplug your modem and router’s power cable.
- Wait 15 seconds.
- Plug power back into the modem.
- Wait until all the lights come back up.
- Plug power back into the Apple router.
Once the light on the Apple router turns from amber to green your WiFi should be back in good order. If you are still having issues with your WiFi, please give us a call at 401-849-2280 and we’ll send a technician out immediately.
